Dr. Michael J Engel was born and raised in Charleston. He was educated in Lowcountry public schools and earned a BS from the University of South Carolina in 1974. Dr. Engel received a MAT from The Citadel and his DMD from the Medical University of South Carolina
Dr. Engel is a member of the American Dental Association, the South Carolina Dental Association and the Olde Charlestowne Sertoma Club. Dr. Engel is a Past Board Member for the Academy of Sports Dentistry, a Fellow on the Academy for Sports Dentistry and served as Chairman for the local Holocaust Remembrance.
Dr. Engel has affiliations with many high school, college and amateur sports teams across the Low country. He has also lectured to National Athletic Trainers Association, student athletic trainers and other local groups about dental sports and safety. Dr. Engel is the only dentist in the state certified to treat elite US Olympic athletes.
